In NCAA Football (unless there is an exception), the season begins the Thursday before Labor Day and regular season concludes on the first Saturday in December. There are 130 division 1 teams and on any given week, over 60 + games are available for wager at any number of sportsbooks. After the regular season ends, there can be 50-80 more games to include bowls games and league championship games. That 17-regular season weeks and bowl games for a total of 1,100 wagering opportunities in 4-months time.
The NCAA Division I men's basketball “regular” season normally begins near Thanksgiving in the third week of November and concludes around the second week of March. There are 353 Division I basketball teams. The regular basketball season is 29 games plus teams may participate in qualifying (tournaments) multiple-team events, but not to exceed a total of 34 games. Basic math dictates that 353 teams multiplied by 33 games each is 11,649 wager events not including final league tournaments or final invitational tournaments such as the NCAA, NIT, CBA, etc. The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament (and other tournaments) begin in mid March and conclude in the first week of April.
The National Football League (NFL) regular season begins on the weekend following the first Monday of September (i.e, the weekend following the Labor Day holiday) and ends in early January, after which that season's playoffs tournament begins. It consists of 272 games, with each of the NFL's 32 teams playing 17 games during an 18-week period with one "bye" week off.
