LAST DAY OF AUGUST! Last week of Saratoga then off to Belmont.
Always use my TOP 3 Picks
Race 1 $70,000 Allowance 2 3/8 Miles Hurdle 1:05 PM ET
Jumpers - My best guess #5 Bright Eyed Eagle 10-1, #6 Baltimore Kid 7-2 and
#2 Ancient Times 8-1.
Race 2 $50,000 Maiden Claiming ($40K) 7F Dirt 1:39 PM ET
There have been (40) 7F races, all of them on dirt, and 12 were maiden. Not one of these owners has a win at 7F. Trainers Saffie Joseph and Mark Hennig are the two trainers with wins at 7F. The leading jockeys in this race are Saez and Alvarado each with three wins. Each of Saez’s wins comes as the #1 ML FAV. I’m going with #3 Laughter 3-1, the #6 I’m Nervous Now 4-1, the #7 Frosty Invasion 8-1, and the #8 Summer Snow 6-1.
Race 3 $83,000 Maiden Special Weight 5.5F Turf 2:13 PM ET
There have been (71) 5.5F races, 57 of them on turf, and 23 were maiden. Owner D. J. Stable has a win at 5.5F turf. D. J. Stable has two wins and one of those was with trainer Mark Casse. Trainer George Weaver has three wins at 5.5F turf. The jockey with the most wins in this race are Jose Ortiz with six, Flavien Prat with four, and Saez and Johnny V with three each. There are six horses that are unraced in this race. I’m going with #3 Closethegame Sugar 4-1, the #8 Nieuwendyk 12-1, the #5 Rock Chalk 5-2, and the #2 Webslinger 7-2.
Race 4 $120,000 Allowance Optional Claiming 1 Mile (8F) Turf 2:49 PM ET
There have been (56) 8F races, 31 of them on turf, 25 of them on dirt. The #3 Zainalarab 5-2 has Franco and Chad Brown teaming up again as the jockey/trainer duo. Franco has a win at 8F turf and Brown has (6) wins. Zainalarab ran a 1:23 at 7F Allowance turf and finished 1st by almost three lengths earning a 108 Beyer. The #5 Scotish Star 5-2 is a dirt horse going to turf. We all know how I like a dirt horse going to turf. Scotish Star has not raced since last year, however, the horse is familiar with Prat (three wins at 8F turf) and now is racing a 8F turf with him. Pletcher has four wins at 8F turf. Behind that I’m going with the #4 Nevisian Sunrise 2-1 and #2 Baby Blythe 5-1.
Race 5 $32,000 Claiming 1 1/8 Miles (9F) Dirt 3:21 PM ET
In my opinion there is not much to choose from in this race, but somebody has to win. Right? The #6 Road to Success 2-1 raced a 9F $16K Claiming at Aqueduct on 2/20/22 and finished 1st with a 1:55 time and a 97 Beyer. The kicker is the horse won by almost 17 lengths! The #5 Dontbelate 8-1 finished 1st at Belmont on 5/1/22 at a 8.5F Claiming dirt gate to wire with a 1:45 time and a 92 Beyer. The same jockey/trainer/owner won that race. Behind that I/m going with the #4 Will E Sutton and the #2 Convertible Freeze.
Race 6 $50,000 Maiden Claiming 1 Mile (8F) Turf 3:55 PM ET
I’m going to try to beat the ML FAV in this race #5 Sals Dream Girl 2-1 . The race is in the middle of the card and they tend to blow up. The #9 Take Charge Lisa 15-1 (SCRATCHED) has not done very well lately and is going from dirt to turf. She is also going a farther distance here. Lisa is getting Johnny V on this mount and I think will do better with him due to his experience. The #10 Cerretta 4-1 has Saez on the mount and he has four 8F turf wins. Cerretta has a 8.5F turf finish time of 1:42 with a Beyer of 96. Behind that I’m taking the #5 Sals Dream Girl 2-1 and #7 Wine Goddess 8-1.
Race 7 $64,000 Claiming 5.5F Turf 4:29 PM ET
I’m taking the #4 Xy Speed 5-2 with Jose Ortiz/Maker/Dubb the trio has won a 5F turf Allowance with a time of 56.21 and a Beyer of 97. The #7 Not Phar Now 7-2 has Franco on the mount which has 6 wins at 5.5F turf. The horse also won a 7F Turf Claiming on 7/10/22 at Belmont with a time of 1:21 and a Beyer of 104. Behind that I’m taking #3 Duress 8-1 and the #1 Shiraz 8-1
Race 8 $36,000 Claiming 6F Dirt 5:05 PM ET
Again, not a lot to choose from in this race. I’m going with wth #6 Double Shot 2-1, the #1 Somebody 8-1, and the #7 Durkin’s Call 9-2
Race 9 $175,000 Anticipation Stakes 1 1/16 Miles (8.5F) Turf 5:39 PM ET
We are down to seven (7) horses in this race. Four horses are going straight from Maiden to Stakes. There have only been two horses to race at this distance. The #9 Our Dream Rye’d 4-1 and the #11 Determinedly 6-1. I’m also taking #2 Andthewinneris 5-1 and the #1 Battle of Normandy.
Race 10 $42,000 Maiden Claiming 6.5F Dirt 6:13 PM ET
The #10 Basic Risk 5-1 has raced once before in April at Belmont, however, it did not do very well. I think the owners were just seeing how the horse raced and what, if any corrections needed to be made. With a purchase price of $310K, I know they want their money's worth. Now, you also need to be aware that the horse is up for claim for $25K. That would be a serious money loss. I am throwing in the only unraced horse from this group, the #7 Cumberland Blues. Behind that I’m taking the #8 Beach Boy Al 9-2 and the #3 Devil Boy 5-2.
